This diversity of roles has taken him in and out of the limelight, and some of his best acting has been in movies that were never mainstream hits, such as The Duellists (1977). Other film credits include Deathwatch (1980), Exposed (1983), Falling in Love (1984), The Men's Club (1986), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), Thelma and Louise (1991), Bugsy (1991) for which he was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor, Reservoir Dogs (1992), The Piano (1993), Rising Sun (1993), Pulp Fiction (1994), Finding Graceland (1998), and Holy Smoke (2000).
