Ruby (Leelee Sobieski) is a happy teenager who jeers at her protective parents just moments before learning they've died in a car crash. As if that wasn't enough, she and her kid brother Rhett (Trevor Morgan) get shipped off to live with Erin and Terry Glass (Diane Lane and Stellan Skarsgard), their parent's best friends—and wealthy psychopaths. That's the problem with The Glass House: there's never any doubt that the creepy couple harbor dark ambitions. This is particularly true in the case of Lane's character, who's constantly rolling up her sleeves to shoot heroin. Thrillers may achieve their thrills elegantly or cheaply, but the thrills must be had. By being transparent from the start, The Glass House offers no real surprises.
