It's hard to say whether this Ukrainian film about post-perestroika free-market angst is a comedy or a tragedy. But that's the beauty of Krishtofovich's intelligent satire; when a struggling young writer (Lazarev) is dumped by his wife (Nevolina) for a more successful capitalist, you won't know whether to laugh or cry.
