Some Other Sucker's Parade
Short on frills, glitz, glamour or hype, the quietly unassuming rockers known as Del Amitri have carved out their piece of the pie quite nicely since the start of the '90s. Never slaves to fashion, the Scottish band's fifth album is a crafty mix of rich harmonies with provocative imagery and blue-eyed, bar-band soul. Songwriter Justin Currie's sense of alienation rings through often, from the infectious album-opener “Not Where It's At” to the Stones-tinged, steel-splashed sarcasm of “Lucky Guy” and the rhythm riding, barn-burning title track. Call this one a winner for losers everywhere.
