• Today's Weather Fact

On this date in 1972, three days of rain culminated in what has become known as the "Buffalo Creek Disaster." The heavy rains caused a coal-slag dam on the middle fork of West Virginia's Buffalo Creek to fail, resulting in the deaths of 125 people. Once the dam burst, a 50-foot-high wall of water rushed down a narrow valley and caused widespread death and destruction.
