    On this date in 1951, a killer ice storm claimed 25 lives as ice coated large parts of the country from Texas to Pennsylvania. The thick coating of ice was also blamed for 500 serious injuries and damages that exceeded $100 million. Tennessee, where phone and power lines were out of commission for ten days in some areas, was the hardest-hit part of the country.
