stronger central government came from an unidentified Massachusetts
anti-federalist in a series of five articles that appeared in the
Boston American Herald, under the pseudonym
"John DeWitt", in honor of the the seventeenth century Dutch
patriot who had defended the liberties of the people against an
oppressive central government
