England (Group G)

FIFA World Ranking: 5

Players to Watch: Alan Shearer (F), Michael Owen (F), Steve McManaman (M)

Prospects: England could be the best team in Europe right now. If they maintain their level of play and can get past a likely quarterfinal meeting with nemesis Germany, England could take home the trophy. Offense is no problem with the great Alan Shearer back from an ankle injury and running the show. Look for 18-year-old striker Michael Owen to come off the bench and dazzle as well. However, the midfield will be without its enigmatic and brilliant leader Paul Gascoigne who was left off the team by manager Glenn Hoddle due to his lack of fitness.

First Round opponents: Tunisia (6/15), Romania (6/22), Colombia (6/26)

Previous team: The Netherlands | Return to main article | Next team: Argentina
