North America vs. The World

(Take Two)

by Michael Morrison

The 49th NHL All-Star Game faces off on Sunday, January 24 at 4:00 p.m. ET from the Ice Palace in Tampa, Florida. Last year the format of the game, usually an Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference affair, was changed to a North America vs. the World to spark attention for the upcoming Olympics in Nagano. Though the Olympics may have been a failure —at least from the points of view of Canada and the United States— the All-Star game (an 8-7 win for North America) was determined to be a success. This year's edition will follow the same format.

Did you know?  Prior to 1979, only female names were used to name hurricanes. That year, the United States began alternating between male and female names for Atlantic hurricanes.
