The Asian economic crisis multiplied, spreading into Russia. India and Pakistan engaged in nuclear brinkmanship, and Indonesia's Suharto toppled. Although Middle East negotiations inched forward, then faltered, in Northern Ireland peace became tangible after decades of violence.





Did you know?  The oldest president inaugurated was Reagan (age 69); the youngest was Kennedy (age 43).
