The Information Society
What do you want to know?
March 11, 1998 New York Times on the Web
by Stephanie Saulmon
It’s an almanac, dictionary, encyclopedia, and search engine all rolled into one and Information Please can even help you cheat on crossword puzzles. The site spotlights various obscure facts (the existence of the island of Diego Garcia, for example) and features a new word every week, in addition to providing ready access to an enormous database of information. It evolved from the famous series of reference books that grew out of research for a popular quiz show, Information Please, which aired from 1938 to 52. Spend some time here brushing up on trivia, and perhaps you can give that smug Alex Trebek the challenge he deserves.
