Description: The fruit of Depardon's three-month sojourn in a police station in the Latin Quarter of Paris--as the title indicates, its concern is the police officer's routine assignment, the kind that rate at best as a paragraph in local newspapers. What emerges is a work which avoids the twin perils of voyeurism and sensationalism and suceeds in being moving, tragic, and unexpectedly hilarious.
