Baseball Florida: (NL): The team is currently in discussions with
the state and local governments involving financing for a new retractable-roofed
ballpark for the Marlins. Preliminary plans call for a $325 million, 38,000-seat
ballpark to be built in Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade County has reportedly
promised $73 million in tourist taxes to the project and the team has committed
$137 million, leaving the plan $115 million short. No realistic timetable
has been set forth but the earliest home opener would likely be no earlier
than April 2007. NBA BASKETBALL
