Note: Clarence Adams had his title stripped by the WBA for not defending his title properly before signing to fight Paulie Ayala. As a result, the Adams-Ayala meeting on Aug. 4, 2001 was a non-title bout. Adams was originally scheduled to fight interim champion Yober Ortega on March 23 but Ortega refused the fight, as did the No. 2 and No. 3 WBA contenders. Adams was forced to settle for Ivan Alvarez, the No. 4 contender. †interim title
