The World Hockey Championships, held in Hanover, Cologne, and Nuremberg, Germany from April 28-May 13, 2001. Top three teams (*) in each group after preliminary round-robin advance to the second round. Fourth-place teams play in a consolation round. Top four teams from each group of the second round advance to the quarterfinals.
