Rosters Selections for the 1998 United States team were determined by a special Solheim Cup points ranking system based on wins and top-10 finishes over the past two years. The top 10 players were joined by two additional selections made by U.S. captain Judy Rankin. The 1998 European squad was fielded via a similar points system based on top-10 finishes at ELPGA events. The top seven players were joined by five selections made by European captain Pia Nilsson. United States: Qualifiers— Donna Andrews, Brandie Burton, Tammie Green, Pat Hurst, Juli Inkster, Chris Johnson, Betsy King, Meg Mallon, Dottie Pepper and Kelly Robbins; Captain's Selections— Rosie Jones and Sherri Steinhauer. Europe: Qualifiers— Helen Alfredsson (Sweden), Laura Davies (England), Marie Laure de Lorenzi (France), Trish Johnson (England), Catriona Matthew (Scotland), Alison Nicholas (England), Annika Sorenstam (Sweden); Captain's Selections—
Sophie Gustafson (Sweden), Lisa Hackney (Sweden), Liselotte Neumann (Sweden), Catrin Nilsmark (Sweden), Charlotta Sorenstam (Sweden).
