Jerry Jones

Born: Oct. 13, 1942
Football

owner-GM of Dallas Cowboys; maverick who bought declining team (3-13) and Texas Stadium for $140 million in 1989; hired pal Jimmy Johnson to replace legendary Tom Landry as coach; their partnership led to 2 Super Bowl titles (1993-94); when feud developed in 1994, he fired Johnson and hired Barry Switzer and won Super Bowl in 1996; defied NFL by signing separate sponsorship deals with Pepsi and Nike in 1995, causing NFL to file a $300 million lawsuit against him, Jones countersued and both sides eventually settled; hired proven winner Bill Parcells as head coach in 2003 following three losing seasons.
