7-time NASCAR national champion (1980,86-87,90-91,93-94); Rookie of Year in 1979; was all-time NASCAR money leader (now 2nd) with over $34 million won and 6th on career wins list with 76 when he died; finally won Daytona 500 in 1998 on 20th attempt; died in last lap crash at the 2001 Daytona 500. Died: Feb. 18, 2001
