Alexander Cartwright

Born: Apr. 17, 1820

engineer and draftsman who spread gospel of baseball from New York City to California gold fields; widely regarded as the father of modern game; his guidelines included setting 3 strikes for an out and 3 outs for each half inning.

Died: July 12, 1892
