Clair Bee

Born: Mar. 2, 1896
Basketball coach who led LIU to 2 undefeated seasons (1936,39) and 2 NIT titles (1939,41)

his teams won 95 percent of their games between 1931-51, including 43 in a row from 1935-37; coached NBA Baltimore Bullets from 1952-54, but was only 34-116; contributions to game include 1-3-1 zone defense, 3-second rule and NBA 24-second clock; also authored sports manuals and fictional Chip Hilton sports books for kids.

Died: May 20, 1983
