The Bone Collector| Director: | Phillip Noyce | | Writer: | Jeremy Iacone | | Universal Pictures; R; 118 minutes | | Release: | 11/99 | | Cast: | Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Queen Latifah |
In the vein of Seven comes The Bone Collector, a grisly serial murderer flick starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. Lincoln Rhyme (Washington) is an expert forensics detective now confined to a wheelchair. He's using lots of hi-tech equipment and Amelia Donaghy (Jolie) to track down a killer who leaves obtuse clues near his victims. Yucky in parts, The Bone Collector serves up macabre cliches frozen with a hasty plot. Crime/mystery movies should be twisty and suspenseful. They should not tread with heavy, plodding feet. Only partially redemptive is eminently watchable Washington's enticing relationship with equally watchable Jolie.
