Plimpton made her acting debut at age 11 in Rollover (1981). She delivered striking performances opposite Tommy Lee Jones in The River Rat (1984), River Phoenix in Running on Empty (1988), and Dianne Wiest in Parenthood (1989). Her other credits include The Mosquito Coast (1986), Music from Another Room (1998) and The Sleepy Time Gal (2001). She is the daughter of actors Keith Carradine and Shelley Plimpton, as well as the granddaughter of John Carradine.
