Ozzy Osbourne

(John Michael Osbourne)
singer
Born: 12/3/1948
Birthplace: Birmingham, England

Throughout the 1970s, Osbourne helped establish a brand of slow, gloomy heavy metal with dark lyrics. He played with several bands early in his career, but first gained recognition singing with Black Sabbath (1969–78). His popularity would rise as a solo artist, producing albums like Blizzard of Ozz (1980) and Diary of a Madman (1981), both of which went platinum. Other albums include: Speak of the Devil (1982), Bark at the Moon (1983), No Rest For The Wicked (1988) and The Ozzman Cometh (1997). He received a Grammy Award in 1992 for the single, “I Don't Want to Change the World.” In 1997 he launched OZZfest, a touring summer music festival that features some of the industry's top metal bands.
