Márta Sebestyén

The Best of Márta Sebestyén

  • Hannibal

Sebestyén may have become “The Voice of The English Patient” because of the number she sang behind the opening credits of the film (the song is included on this album), but she had already been the prime solo voice of Eastern European folk for quite a few years. With her wide range and vaulting, pure tone, perfect for a wintry moonlit night, Sebestyén has performed gypsy dance tunes, Transylvanian chants and winding Indian song-poems. But on her own or with the groups Muzsikás and Vujicsics, her albums tend to be too folkloric or homogenous. This collection represents her full variety of styles and gives the austere beauty of her singing its most complete display.
