John Schlesinger

Academy Award-winning film and television director whose Midnight Cowboy (1970) is the only X-rated film to win a best-picture Oscar. His other films include Sunday, Bloody Sunday (1967), The Day of the Locust (1975), and more recently, Madonna's latest effort, The Next Best Thing (2000).

Died: July 25, 2003
