famed editorial cartoonist who won three Pulitzer Prizes for his stylized, witty images. In his 50-plus years at the Washington Post, he satirized every president from Herbert Hoover to George W. Bush. His targets also included the atomic bomb, Stalin, and the missile-defense program known as “Star Wars.” His collections of cartoons include The Herblock Book (1952) and Herblock's State of the Union (1972). Died: Washington, D.C., 10/7/2001
