Travis rock band
Glaswegian rock quartet Travis gained popularity as part of the late '90s “back-to-basics” movement in British pop triggered by rival Oasis' dominance of record charts worldwide. Beatles fans Fran Healy (singer/songwriter), Andy Dunlop (guitar), Dougie Payne (bass), and Neil Primrose (drums) met while studying art in Glasgow. Quickly deciding that the art world's loss was the music world's gain, the group recorded a demo for £600 and left Glasgow for London in 1996. After a self-released EP and a handful of singles gained notoriety, the group teamed with producer Steve Lillywhite to record their major label debut, Good Feeling (1997), which shot into the top 10 behind singles “Happy” and “Tied to the 90s.” Even greater success met The Man Who (1999), which topped the charts behind singles “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” and “Writing to Reach You.” The Invisible Band (2001) debuted at number one on the British album charts.
