It's amazing how quickly cartoon antics, when translated into the real world, can turn unpleasant. Such is the case in Cats and Dogs. The new film combines live footage with computer-generated effects to depict a hi-tech battle between fascistic felines and their tail-wagging canine competition.

Jeff Goldblum plays a workaholic scientist too busy concocting a dog allergy cure to spend time with his son (Alexander Pollock). It numbers among a few frivolous sideplots. The animal action is where the creators of Cats and Dogs concentrated their efforts. In other words, the Dr. Dolittle kid crowd will be amused while their parents will long for the day when their kids can go to the movies unaccompanied.
