In any intergalactic adventure where "A.E" stands for "After Earth," one expects nothing less than the epic. True, this scale of grandeur can be a lot to ask of a cartoon; but in Titan A.E. the animation lives up to the task. The issue isn't technology, it's the script.

Matt Damon voices renegade space cowboy Cale. Cale has been gifted with a DNA map to an arklike spacecraft that could restore planet Earth. Our planet was destroyed by maleficent aliens in the form of glowing energy blobs.Star Wars-style mythology and cute creatures hybridize with anime's stylistic edge. Occasional sexual innuendo and violence aims at Japanimation's teen market, but the film also seems to have embraced anime's penchant for elliptical plot lines and awkward dialogue. Although in this case there's no translator to blame.
