Chlöe Sevigny

actress
Born: Nov. 18, 1975
Birthplace: Darien, Conn.

One of independent film's darlings, Sevigny has made a career out of appearing in risky films. In her big-screen debut, she played a teen who contracted AIDS from a barely pubescent "virgin surgeon" in 1995's Kids. She collaborated with daring young filmmaker Harmony Korine, who wrote the screenplay for Kids, in Gummo (1997) and Julien Donkey-Boy (1999). She also starred in Whit Stillman's critically acclaimed The Last Days of Disco (1998) and in the panned in Cannes The Brown Bunny (2003). Sevigny earned her first Oscar nomination for her performance in the biopic Boys Don't Cry (1999), in which she played the girlfriend of Brandon Teena, a girl who reinvented herself as a boy. She has also been in the first two installments of Lars Von Trier's U.S. trilogy, Dogville (2003) and Manderlay (2005).
