Gun Shy| Director/Writer: | Eric Blakeney | | Hollywood Pictures; R; 102 minutes | | Release: | 2/00 | | Cast: | Liam Neeson, Oliver Platt, Jose Zuniga, Sandra Bullock |
In Gun Shy Liam Neeson plays an aging DEA agent who's lost his nerve and finds himself facing a terrifying final sting. Fulvio Nesstra (Oliver Platt) is the hammy hit-man he's up against. Nesstra happens to be facing similar male issues—his crime boss father-in-law doesn't like him and he's Italian and can't grow decent tomatoes. Writer-director Eric Blakeney has created a decent dark comedy with interesting stabs at characterization. With errors such as a minor romance between Charlie (Neeson) and Judy Tipp (Sandra Bullock), the nurse who gives him an enema to relieve his stress-related tummy troubles, Gun Shy is often undercooked, but never inedible.
