Football is war, Oliver Stone shouts over and over throughout his beefy sports flick, Any Given Sunday. Al Pacino stars as the gruff, absurdly dedicated old-timer whose team is mentality put to the test with the erratic adolescent success of star Willie Beamen (Jamie Foxx). Cameron Diaz strains her believability as the team's cutthroat owner, and Dennis Quaid appears way past his prime playing a player way past his prime. But Stone likes testosterone, the raucous visual order of men crashing against men, and for nearly three hours, it dominates the movie.
