Chill Factor| Director: | Hugh Johnson | | Warner Bros.; R; 102 minutes | | Release: | 8/99 | | Cast: | Cuba Gooding, Jr., Skeet Ulrich, Peter Firth, David Paymer |
The plot of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s most forgettable movie to date revolves around a blue semisolid capable of destroying all life within a 500 mile radius. A blue semisolid named Elvis. Tim (Skeet Ulrich) receives the goop from his buddy, a mortally injured military scientist whose last words are urgent instructions to take Elvis to the nearest Army base while keeping it chilled below 50 degrees. Tim, a gun-toting short-order cook, enlists the help of a thief with an ice-cream truck (Gooding). And their mission begins. The unlikely pair dodge bloodthirsty Army renegades and various goons with the antagonistic buddy repartee common to the action-comedy genre. Gooding, by far the best actor in Chill Factor, sells himself short with easy one-liners and farcical overreaction to the violence exploding around him. The film is empty calorie entertainment, lacking real kick.
