James Van Der Beek plays a sensitive football hero struggling in a Texan town peopled by an obsessive coach, a sex-ed instructor who moonlights as a stripper (yes boys, you get a peep), vapid football players and the nubile teens who love them and monomaniacal parents for whom football has taken the place of religion, politics and interpersonal relationships.
