Can't Hardly Wait steals from edgier teen flicks such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Risky Business as shamelessly as a cheater in trigonometry class. Yet file this one under guilty pleasures: it's still mindlessly endearing. Love Hewitt is the unattainable prom queen; Embry, the aspiring writer who wants to attain her. Along with other requisite stereotypes - the cynic, the jock, the nerd - they get down for a familiar night of metamorphoses, memories, and making out, with the subplots - especially geeky Charlie Korsmo's tipsy transformation - eventually outshining the romance.
