Birthplace: Bossier City, Louisiana
After a nomadic childhood that included stays in Haiti, Louisiana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Virginia, Jared Leto moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to pursue an acting career. In 1994, he landed a part on ABC's My So-Called Life, playing opposite Claire Danes. His performance led to small parts in movies, most notably in the Winona Ryder film How to Make an American Quilt (1995). His first feature starring role was in the biopic Prefontaine (1997), in which Leto played the title role, that of legendary American distance runner Steve Prefontaine. Leto can also be seen in 1998's World War II battle of Guadalcanal movie The Thin Red Line and the 1999 Brad Pitt film Fight Club. Other performances include Girl, Interrupted (1999), American Psycho (2000) and Requiem for a Dream (2000)
