Holy Man| Director: | Stephen Herek | | Writer: | Tom Schulman | | Touchstone Pictures; PG; 113 minutes | | Release: | 10/98 | | Cast: | Eddie Murphy, Jeff Goldblum, Kelly Preston, Robert Loggia, Jon Cryer and Eric McCormack |
Holy cow, does this movie stink! Eddie Murphy has made some questionable decisions, and taking this role is right up there with “helping” the transvestite during his ride around Hollywood in the wee hours of the morning. Like that ill-fated encounter, there's no rhyme or reason to be made of this film, which finds his G, a dashiki-clad guru, coming to the aide of Good Buy Shopping Network beleaguered executive Ricky Hayman (Goldblum), who's about to lose his job if sales don't pick up. G becomes pitchman for the network, and his New Age-y utterings inspire viewers to buy, buy, buy.
