John Goodman

Born: 6/20/1952
Birthplace: St. Louis, Missouri

John Goodman's sizable frame won him a football scholarship and a stint as a bouncer while he pursued a stage career. In 1979 he made his debut on Broadway, where for years he garnered accolades in dramas and musicals alike. But it was as the warm, working-class father Dan Conner on the sitcom Roseanne (1988–96) that Goodman became a familiar face to millions of Americans. The portrayal earned him four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe. The likable Goodman, a natural for children's movies, has appeared in King Ralph (1991),The Flintstones (1994), and The Borrowers (1997). He has also appeared in The Babe (1992), Matinee (1993), The Big Lebowski (1998), Blues Brothers 2000 (1998), Bringing Out the Dead (1999) and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000).
