Andy Warhol (Andrew Warhola) artist, film maker Born: 8/6/1928(?) Birthplace: Pittsburgh,(?) Pennsylvania
The consummate dispassionate observer and a founder of pop culture, Warhol made the Campbell Soup can an art object in the early '60s and created colored silk screens of luminaries such as Marilyn Monroe and Mao Zedong. He worked in a New York loft called the Factory where he collaborated with other artists such as director Paul Morrissey and the rock band, The Velvet Underground. His quirky films, such as Chelsea Girls (1966), often juxtaposed the banal with the coarsely sexual. Famous for his prediction, “In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes,” Warhol's fame continues. Died: 2/22/1987
