Skoog challenges John Hughes' comic vision of the suburban teenage angst with this grimy account of two girls' (Weil and Morgan) growing pains in a New Jersey shore town. The unlikely pair of friends are united by their experiences with drugs, alcohol, cruel parents and unhappy sex. Whatever starts off as a ferocious look at adolescence but ends up dissolving into melodrama.
