Sam Waterston

actor
Born: 11/15/1940
Birthplace: Cambridge, Massachusetts

If a military band plays, “Hail to the Chief,” when Sam Waterston steps off a plane, forgive the confusion. Waterston was the voice for Thomas Jefferson in the PBS mini series, Lewis and Clark (1997); played Jefferson in the mini series, Thomas Jefferson (1997); played the President in Shadow Conspiracy (1997) and in the telefilm, The Enemy Within (1994); portrayed Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln (1988), and provided the voice of Lincoln in the seminal PBS mini series, The Civil War (1990). In between presidential roles, Waterston has been in about 70 TV series and movies, often as a lawyer such as his roles as District Attorney Forrest Bedford in the critically acclaimed series, I'll Fly Away (1991–93) and as Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy in, Law and Order (1994–).
