Ridley Scott director, producerBorn: 11/30/1937 Birthplace: South Shields, England Scott began directing programs for the BBC in the 1960s and formed a production company that turned out a number of award-winning TV commercials. His first feature film, The Duellist (1977), took Best First Work at Cannes and set the tone for the Scott oeuvre: dazzling visual style. The futuristic Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982) gained a wide audience, and the feminist drama Thelma and Louise (1991) earned Scott an Oscar nomination. He also produced The Browning Version (1994) and directed G.I. Jane (1997), Hannibal (2001), the sequel to The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Where the Money Is (2000), Gladiator (2000, produced and directed), and Black Hawk Down (2001, produced and directed).
