Birthplace: Birmingham, Michigan
From 1995–1999 Christine Lahti stirred hearts as the tough and accomplished cardiologist Dr. Kate Austin on the drama series Chicago Hope—a role that earned her an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. The first of Lahti's many quirky acting jobs was as a mime in Europe after college. She has appeared in many offbeat productions in television, film, and the theater, most notably the 1987 film Housekeeping. She won an Oscar for Best Short Film, Live Action for Lieberman in Love (1995), which she directed and acted in, and was nominated for her supporting performance in Swing Shift (1984). She directed her first feature film in 2001: My First Mister with Albert Brooks and John Goodman. She played the mother of WB's Jack and Bobby (2004).
