Academy Award-winning actress considered the First Lady of the Screen during the early days of Hollywood, Shearer won a Best Actress Oscar for The Divorcee (1930), and was nominated for her performances in Their Own Desire (1929), The Barrets of Wimpole Street (1934), Romeo and Juliet (1936), and Marie Antoinette (1938). She was married to MGM Production chief Irving Thalberg (1927–36, his death). Died: 6/12/1983
