Director and producer best known for his work on horror and sci-fi action films, including Halloween (1978), Christine (1983), Starman (1984), Village of the Damned (1995) and Escape from L.A(1996) A graduate from the University of Southern California film school, Carpenter began making short films in 1962 and won an Academy Award in 1970 for his short live action film, The Resurrection of Bronco Billy. He is married to producer Sandy King.
