Genial film and stage actor who has appeared in numerous movies, including The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Something Wild (1986), Radio Days (1987), Sweet Hearts Dance (1988), Arachnophobia (1990), Gettysburg (1993), Dumb and Dumber (1994), Fly Away Home (1996), 101 Dalmatians (1996), and Pleasantville (1998). He appeared in the television drama The Crossing (2000). In 2005, he gained critical acclaim for his roles in Good Night and Good Luck and The Squid and the Whale.
