A supporting player on stage and in movies, he is known for his roles as a government scientist in E.T. (1982) and the prosecuting attorney in Jagged Edge (1985). His other movies include Cross Creek (1983), The Legend of Billie Jean (1985), A Man in Love (1987), Outrageous Fortune (1987), and Sphere (1998), Erin Brockovich (2000).
