Otto Preminger

Born: 12/5/1905
Birthplace: Vienna, Austria

A stage actor and director in Vienna and on Broadway, Preminger began his Hollywood career by acting in movies in the early 1940s. Internal politics at 20th Century Fox complicated his move to the director's chair, but success quickly followed. Preminger received Oscar nominations for directing Laura (1944) and The Cardinal (1963) and earned a best picture nomination for Anatomy of a Murder (1959). He also directed and produced Angel Face (1952), Exodus (1960), and Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon (1970).
