There's Something About Mary
The Farrelly brothers reach new lows and highs in their latest gross-out comedy. The filmmakers are indiscriminate in their politically incorrectness, with crude jabs aimed at everyone from the mentally ill to the elderly. But Farrellys have also crafted an outrageously hilarious film. There's something about Mary (Diaz) that nerdy nice-guy Ted (Stiller) just can't forget. So 13 years after a horribly humiliating mishap (think: zipper meets the most fragile part of the male anatomy) brought their prom date to an abrupt end, Ted hires sleazeball PI Pat Healy (Dillon in a refreshingly comic turn) to track her down. Complications ensue when Healy decides that there's something about Mary that he can't live without, so he misleads Ted about her current condition: “I'll let you know when she gets back from Japan” “Japan!!??” “Yeah, she's one of them mail-order brides.” “But I thought you said she was huge! ” “Uh, yeah, well, they pay by the pound over there.” Understandably suspicious of such information, Ted decides to make contact with Mary himself, which leads to even more boisterous fun. Outstanding performances from the entire cast only add to the fun.
