Tom Clancy novelist Born: 4/12/1947 Birthplace: Baltimore, Maryland
A former insurance salesman, he is known for his best-selling thrillers, including The Hunt for Red October (1984), Patriot Games (1987), and Clear and Present Danger (1989), which feature political intrigue among the world superpowers, state-of -the-art weaponry and military strategy, and the American hero Jack Ryan. A number of his books have been made into movies.
